Michele Megas-Ditomassi joins T. John Megas, Dr. Stephen Bonasera, and Susan Megas at a celebration event at her home in Longmeadow, Mass. The Michele Megas-Ditomassi and Susan and T. John Megas, Jr. Endowment was announced on June 27 at the home of Michele Megas-Ditomassi in honor of her husband, George, who was a force in the toy and game industry. “Shine a light on the importance of memory care” was the theme for the event. Michele, along with her brother TJ and his wife Susan who are co-sponsors of the endowment, were thrilled that so many gathered on a lovely summer evening to learn about memory care.

After George’s passing in May 2021, his family knew that they had to raise awareness and funding for memory care in the western Massachusetts region. Working with the Baystate Health Foundation, Michele, TJ, and Susan made a generous donation to create the endowment. This endowment continues George’s dedication to philanthropy for the region where he gave generously to many causes and organizations.

For decades the Baystate Memory Assessment and Care Clinic has provided state-of-the-art evaluations, therapies, education, and family support.

“We started this endowment to support the vital work of the clinic, which is the only type of memory care clinic in the region,” said Michele. “Memory care is about helping families create an environment where their loved ones can live with dignity, grace, and comfort.”

The creation of the fund and overwhelming support of those he met at the event resonated with Dr. Stephen Bonasera, chief of the Division of Geriatrics, Palliative Care and Post Acute Care at Baystate Health.

“We saw concrete support that our community understands the challenges that families taking care of loved ones who have dementia face every day, and we thank our community for their contributions to this cause,” remarked Dr. Bonasera. “These kinds of funds support vital programs and services that are not covered by insurance and are often out of reach for everyday families.”

This endowed fund will provide support for the Clinic in perpetuity and will celebrate the legacy of generosity that George had created. Born and raised in western Massachusetts, George made it his mission to give back to his community, and George’s wife, Michele, has continued his commitment to philanthropy for the region. This endowed fund in honor of George is a living tribute to him for all that he has given to his community, his loving family, and countless friends.
