PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency

The PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy residency program at Baystate Medical Center offers a high-quality learning experience that builds upon your PGY-1 pharmacy practice skills. The program is designed to develop a healthcare practitioner with advanced skills in various practice settings.

In our residency, you will:

• Make pharmacotherapy decisions for chronic disease states
• Hone your practice style and patient education methods
• Be prepared to graduate as a competent practitioner and able to practice in a high volume ambulatory clinic

Our graduates can expect to be prepared for positions such as, ambulatory pharmacists specializing in chronic disease state management, pharmacy clinical coordinators, or faculty member.

Training is Focused, Yet Flexible

Our PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency consists of both longitudinal and focused experiences concentrating on many aspects of ambulatory pharmacy practice.

Your training focuses on developing the ability to deal with a range of diseases that occur in the ambulatory patient.

Program incorporates time at the end of your residency to combine your knowledge from experiences throughout the year and practice in a setting of your choice.

PGY2 Purpose Statement

PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in advanced or specialized practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care that improves medication therapy.

Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency should possess competencies that qualify them for clinical pharmacist and/or faculty positions and position them to be eligible for attainment of board certification in the specialized practice area (when board certification for the practice area exists).

The PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy residency program is in candidate status by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
