PGY2 Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Residency
The PGY2 Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Residency program at Baystate Medical Center offers a high-quality, in-depth learning environment in which our pharmacy residents can build upon their PGY1 pharmacy practice skills and develop accountability and practice patterns and habits in addition to expert knowledge, skills, attitudes, and abilities in the advanced area of Emergency Medicine.
The experience you need to excel in your career
You will graduate equipped to be a fully integrated member of an emergency medicine interdisciplinary team, able to make complex medication related decisions within the fast-paced environment of the emergency department.
Training focuses on developing your capability to manage a range of disease states and disorders that present to the emergency department. Graduates of the program can expect to be prepared for positions including, but not limited to, a pharmacist specializing in emergency medicine pharmacotherapy, faculty at a college of pharmacy, or a medical science liaison.
Program flexibility accommodates your training goals
Our curriculum consists of multiple rotation blocks concentrating on the multiple aspects of emergency medicine pharmacy practice. The flexibility within the program allows it to be customized to accommodate your knowledge, skills, abilities, interests, and career goals.
All program graduates are expected to demonstrate competency in the areas of contemporary pharmacy practice, written and oral communication, teaching, and clinical research.
ASHP required PGY2 purpose statement
PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available.
Baystate's PGY2 Emergency Medicine Residency is currently a candidate for accreditation by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
