Your Child's Stay at Baystate Children's Hospital
Care for Kids When One Size Doesn’t Fit All
While we strive to provide children with care they need on an outpatient basis, sometimes a hospital stay is needed. At Baystate Children’s Hospital — a fully accredited hospital within Baystate Medical Center — we know one size doesn’t fit all when it comes to caring for children. That’s why we offer several unique, specialized care units:
Specialized Care Units
Your Child’s Caregivers
When your child comes to Baystate Children's Hospital, he or she receives care from a team of doctors, nurses, child life specialists, and other medical experts who work together to give your child the highest level of care. Your team may include physician specialists as well as respiratory therapists, registered dietitians, or other experts.
Our pediatric hospitalists closely coordinate and supervise this care, and one of them will be the person you count on to keep you informed.
Care Centered Around Your Family
We know how important family is in the treatment and recovery of children in the hospital. We understand no one knows your child better than you. Both you and your child are considered very important members of the care team.
You’re welcome here 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Your child’s room has a sleep chair for you or another adult member of your family to spend the night. Feel free to add personal touches and bring favorite toys to decorate your child’s room.
We Let Kids Be Kids
Play is an important part of a child’s life. Our child life specialists play an important role in the care of your child. They plan, organize, and supervise activities in the play areas, like our indoor/outdoor play deck, and provide toys and games for children at their bedsides.
Our child life specialists understand how children may feel about being sick. They provide encouragement and support, and can help your child and family understand and cope with your situation.
We’re Here for All of You
While our first priority is the health care of your child, we realize that includes caring for the whole child, as well as the family. If there’s something we can do to ease the stress that often comes with your child being in the hospital, please let us know.
