The Baystate Children's Hospital's balanced 3-year ACGME-accredited Pediatrics Residency program, offered at UMass Chan-Baystate, ensures that you experience all aspects of pediatric care on both ambulatory and inpatient services.
Our graduates are accomplished pediatricians who are:
- Knowledgeable in medical problems and treatments

- Attuned to the needs of their patients
- Able to navigate the complexities of the medical system
Plenty of exposure to common and rare diagnoses
We care for children from the urban areas of Holyoke and Springfield, the surrounding suburbs, and rural areas from northern Connecticut to southern Vermont, and eastern New York to Worcester, MA.
You will care for children of all ages—from diverse economic and cultural backgrounds—with illnesses from the commonplace to the rare and unusual.

- Our residents are here to learn; our diverse pediatric faculty is dedicated to teaching. There are few fellows at Baystate—here the faculty works directly with you, including leading your didactics.
- Hands-on clinical experience and structured educational times are integral to the residency experience.
- Our residents solidify their knowledge while teaching medical students from Tufts, the University of Massachusetts, and other medical schools.

The UMass Chan Medical School-Baystate Pediatric Residency Program is designed to develop our residents into the best pediatricians they can be and to prepare them for life-long learning. Our Children's Hospital, within the largest tertiary care hospital in western Massachusetts, is the primary source for pediatric care in the region. We have the best of all worlds, combining tertiary care with a strong primary care and community focus in a very supportive environment.

- PL1: 1 boot camp (inpatient and outpatient,) 3 Inpatient Rotations (including 1 Nights), 2 NICU, 1 mixed subspecialty, 1 Normal Newborn Nursery, 1 Pediatric ED, 1 Culture/Society/Health (CSH - community/advocacy), 1 Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics, 1 Elective
- PL2: 3 Inpatient Rotations (1 Gridmaster, 1 Manager, 1 Nights), 1 NICU, 1 PICU, 1 Adolescent Medicine, 1 On-Demand, 1 Pediatric ED, 1 CSH, 1 Behavioral Health, 2 Electives
- PL3: 2 Inpatient Rotations (1 day leading team, 1 night supervisor), 1 PICU, 1 Normal Newborn Nursery, 1 Pediatric ED, 1/2 - 1 NICU, 1 Ambulatory Chief, 5 - 51/2 Electives
- Thursday afternoon block conference (Faculty coverage for uninterrupted educational experience)
- Morning Report 3 times a week
- Radiology Rounds once a month
- Robust continuity clinic experience
- Resident Project - Clinical Research, Quality Improvement or Advocacy
- No scheduled float from elective or ambulatory rotations to cover inpatient services.
