Emergency Orthopedic Care at the Region's Only Level 1 Trauma Center

As the only level 1 trauma center in western Massachusetts, Baystate Medical Center can be your first stop for emergency orthopedic issues.

Our orthopedic trauma surgeons are specialists in treating injuries caused by auto accidents, gunshot wounds, industrial disasters, falls, and more. The orthopedic trauma team, made up of experts from across medical areas, understands how important it is to address the overall orthopedic emergency needs of our patients from the start of care.

We’ll call in additional specialists as needed, to manage and treat any secondary injuries along with life-threatening ones. We consider your total state, including any less urgent conditions you may have, and create a complete plan for your care. For example, a hand or leg injury may not need immediate attention, but if left unattended, it could result in infection, disability, or discomfort as you recover.
