PALMER -- The new $17.2 million emergency department at Baystate Wing Hospital is now built, and the organization's leadership will formally inaugurate the facility during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Sept. 14.
The 10 a.m. event begins with brief remarks by the health system's top leaders, followed by public tours.
The 17,800-square-foot facility at 40 Wright St. was funded in part by $2.9 million from donations.
"The new space includes separate ambulance and public entryways and features 20 patient rooms, including trauma, behavioral health, and other dedicated specialty care areas," Baystate said in a statement.
"In the new Emergency Department, private rooms have replaced curtained bays to enhance patient privacy and there is a dedicated space for behavioral health patients. Additionally, patients will have access to the most sophisticated medical technology, including CT scan and Radiology (x-ray) services."
Speakers will include Dr. Mark Keroack, president and CEO of Baystate Health; Nancy Shendell-Falik, president at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield and senior vice president of Hospital Operations for Baystate Health; Michael Moran, president and chief administrative officer of Baystate Wing Hospital and Baystate Mary Lane Outpatient Center; and will Dr. David Maguire, chief medical officer for Wing and Mary Lane.
