Research Week Awards

Each year during Research Week, Baystate Medical Center recognizes excellence in biomedical and educational research. The two awards for biomedical research recognize residents and fellows who have contributed to excellence in research as judged by innovation, and signficance. The two awards for education research recognize educators at any level who have contributed to excellence in quantitative educational research, and qualitative education research. An outstanding achievements award is given annually to a member of our research staff who has made outstanding contributions to research at Baystate Medical Center.

Award for Significance in Research

The award recognizes the importance of the research.  It is awarded to residents and fellows contributing to the research project that has the greatest impact or potential to advance scientific knowledge or clinical practice as judged by the effect on the concepts, methods, technologies, treatments, services or preventative interventions for the field of research.

Award for Innovation in Research

The award recognizes the originality of the research.  It is awarded to residents and fellows contributing to the research project that best challenges existing paradigms or clinical practice as judged by an innovative hypothesis, addresses a critical barrier to progress, or develops or employs novel concepts, approaches or methodologies, tools, or technologies for the field of research.

Award for Excellence in Clinical Education Research

The award for Excellence in Clinical Education Research recognizes educators at any level for original educational scholarship that is both significant to Baystate’s educational programs and to the wider field of clinical education. Innovative research approaches are strongly encouraged. Research projects that are competitive for this Award demonstrate excellence in five areas: 1) statement of the problem, 2) review of literature, 3) research method and questions, 4) findings, and 5) discussion of significance to the field. Research studies should be complete by the time of the abstract submission.

Award for Outstanding Achievements in Clinical Research

This award recognizes the outstanding contribution of a research staff member to either the conduct of clinical research within Baystate Health (systems contribution) or to the field (regional or national recognition). It is awarded to a research staff member who excels at his or her own job performance and also makes a larger contribution to research by either recognizing and taking action to solve systems issues that affect the conduct of clinical research at Baystate or by demonstrating their knowledge, leadership, and skills at a regional or national level.
