Obstetrics-Gynecology Residency Curriculum PG2

Nature & Scope

House officers in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency will rotate on Obstetrics, Gynecology, Ob/Gyn subspecialty rotations as well as in the Department of Medicine and Surgery.

The PG2 rotates on the high risk obstetric service and cares for patients with medical problems and/or pregnancy complications. The PG2 resident also performs complicated vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections.

On the Gynecology Service they are responsible for the admission, workups and followup of their assigned patients. They scrub on more complex cases, such as, abdominal explorations and hysterectomies as well as other gynecologic procedures such as tubal ligations, diagnostic laparoscopies, hysteroscopies and other procedures.

On the Gynecologic Oncology Service, they are responsible for the history, physical examination and followup of patients assigned to them. On this service they also will scrub on less complicated oncologic cases which will include abdominal hysterectomies and abdominal exploration.

There is a PG2 night float rotation. The other residents will rotate through the weekend call schedule and do not have night call during the week, Sunday - Thursday.

While on the Internal Medicine Service they are responsible for the workup and evaluation of patients assigned to them in an outpatient setting.

On the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) rotation they are responsible for the workup and followup of patients assigned to them.

On all of the various services, they are responsible for reporting their findings and progress of their patients to the senior residents on the service or the attending physician. All rotations meet ACGME resident work hour requirements.

Residents are also responsible for maintaining their medical records and following the policies of Baystate Medical Center and the Department.
