Message from the Emergency Medicine Chief Residents

The Emergency Department at Baystate Medical Center is a fun, crazy and unique environment.  One of the busiest EDs in the country, the acuity and variety of patients who we treat are amazing.  At Baystate we have the benefit of being part of a great team of staff, nurses and physicians who are all there to help and support each other through the craziest of shifts.  From physicians and nurses to clerks and custodians, we consider every person working in the department to be an essential part of the patient care team.

As Chief Residents, our goal is to create an environment that allows for people to work, learn, and survive inside and outside of the ED.  Designing a schedule that is the most circadian-friendly as possible, and allowing residents enough time off to maintain a well-rounded life outside of the hospital are strong foundations upon which this residency was built.  The three-day resident retreat in July and the ACEP conference for third years are other highlights of the year.  As Chiefs, we act as liaisons between the residents and the administration to help make the residency as strong as possible, and we are here to help with any issues that arise. We’re proud to represent the Baystate EM residency and look forward to a great year.
