Global Health Programs: REACH

REACH (Residents Educated in Alternative Cultures and Health) was developed in 2003 by a group of residents and attending physicians who shared an interest in global health, particularly in the developing world. Since then, it has been expanding into all departments.

Two Main Aspects of REACH

1. Broad-based Curriculum

  • Offers information not readily found in textbooks or online

  • Provides an overview of important issues for residents considering medical work in the developing world

  • Meets monthly for 9 months each year featuring public health topics and reports from faculty and residents about their global health experiences

2. International Medical Education

  • Development of a well-researched listing of locations where residents can spend a month on elective

  • Provides a range of options re: continent, urban or rural, teaching or researching, inpatient or outpatient.

  • Offers an International Health Travel Grant program to help fund travel and lodging for international rotations.

REACH is a work in progress. We welcome your input as we create this exciting program in international health.
