Baystate Health Awards and Rankings for Quality and Safety

Baystate invites unbiased accrediting organizations to tell us how we compare to other health care facilities and institutions nationwide.  Our many awards, accreditations and high rankings affirm that we meet the highest quality and safety standards for hospitals and rank among the top hospitals in the United States.  Here are some recent examples:

In its 18th Annual America's Best Hospitals ranking, U.S.News & World Report listed Baystate Medical Center among the 173 hospitals honored out of more than 5,462 American hospitals it evaluated.  They recognized BMC for endocrinology and bariatric (weight-loss surgery). Learn more...

Seven Baystate Health departments and centers received 2006 Five-Star Awards for overall quality of care from Professional Research Consultants.

The Institute for Healthcare Improvement designated Baystate Medical Center as a Mentor  in its 100K Lives and 5 Million Lives Campaign for superior performance and willingness to share innovations and practical ideas, coaching other hospitals around the nation. Baystate Franklin Medical Center and Baystate Mary Lane Hospital also participate in this national campaign.

Thomson (formerly Solucient) named Baystate Medical Center to its list of Top 100 Hospitals in the United States (1999, 2002 and 2006)

Thomson also rated BMC one of America's 100 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals in 2005 and 2006, based on comparative measurements in cost, quality and market performance.   Learn more....

Baystate Medical Center has been named among the Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals: Performance Improvement Leaders, based on a study of the five-year performance of more than 2,800 hospitals on a variety of clinical, financial, operational and patient safety criteria. BMC was listed in the major teaching hospitals category.

 The study rated hospitals on eight factors: patient mortality, medical complications, patient safety, length of stay, expenses, profitability, cash-to-debt ratio, and use of evidence-based medicine. This hospital assessment project, which dates back to 1993, was formerly called the Solucient 100 Top Hospitals program.  Learn more..

   
ALT Baystate Health earned the 2007 Hospitals for a Healthy Environment (H2E) Sustained Environmental Leadership Award, the highest award given to health care facilities for outstanding environmental performance.  Baystate was the only Massachusetts health system in Massachusetts honored out of 19 nationwide.  H2E is affiliated with the American Hospital Association.
